1/ Introduction
Crospovidone (PVPP) is a cross-linked polymer of povidone that is insoluble but rapidly swells in water. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is widely used as a superdisintegrant in tablets and capsules, helping to shorten disintegration time and improve the solubility and bioavailability of APIs. Additionally, crospovidone can act as an adsorbent and chemical stabilizer for certain sensitive APIs.
2/ Key Advantages
- Rapid tablet disintegration at low concentrations (1–5%)
- Combines three efficient disintegration mechanisms: swelling, wicking, and shape recovery
- Excellent compressibility, allowing tablets with high hardness and low friability
- Good wetting of excipients; non-ionic, non-reactive, and does not form gels even at high concentrations
- PVPP XL: strong disintegration power for hard tablets (e.g., herbal tablets)
- PVPP XL-10: fine disintegration with pleasant mouthfeel, suitable for ODT formulations
- Product complies with USP/EP/BP
- The manufacturer has EXCIPACT GMP Certificate for Pharma application
- Stock available at GSP/ GDP warehouse, prompt delivery, competitive price
3/ Applications
- An effective disintegrant for tablets, hard capsules, orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs), and herbal tablets
- Stabilizes active ingredients and enhances the solubility and bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs (BCS Class II and IV)
